Indigo blue weekend
Join natural dyer and designer Malú Colorín of Talú for a weekend-long indigo dyeing workshop, where you'll learn the ins and outs of creating blues using plant-based indigo pigment.
Indigo is the only reliable source of plant-based blues and it behaves in its own unique way, unlike other natural dyes. Dyeing with it requires observation, a basic knowledge of chemistry, and patience. It's an awe-inspiring magical process! During this weekend, we will go over the theory and practice of building, maintaining, and dyeing with an indigo vat. You'll learn what indigo is, how it's made, and how to successfully dye with it, honing on your observation skills. We will create two different indigo vats: an iron vat, which is suitable for plant-based fibres, and an organic vat, which is suitable for all natural fibre types.
You're welcome to bring a few small items made of natural fibres to dye! (for example: t-shirts, a light dress, a pair of light trousers, or skeins of yarn). At the end of the workshop, you'll also leave with your own indigo-dyed samples.
